Can home-owner repair their own air conditioner by himself?

In most cases, definitely not. Air conditioners today are complicated to service and usually require expert attention in order to comply with federal regulations, which prohibits releasing refrigerants into the atmosphere. An air conditioning contractor or service technician should be called at the first sign of trouble.

What is "Heat Pump"?

The difference between a heat pump and a normal air conditioner is that a heat pump air conditioner can be used to heat a home as well as cool it. A heat pump can change which coil is the condenser and which the evaporator. Even though the heat pump can heat, it still uses the same basic refrigeration cycle to do this.

Toshiba manufactures a wide range of heat pump models - from hiwalls to VRF systems. Heat pump is a very effective heating method. For example, Daiseikai RAS-10SKVP-ND consumes only 0.63 kW at a heating capacity of 3,2 kW and can haet the room at an outdoor temperature as low as -15º.

What is better - central air conditioning, highwall or window units?

This depends largely on individual circumstances for example, how large is the area to be air conditioned, how large is the family, what temperatures are required, how well the house is insulated, where the house is located, etc.

Central systems require internal ducting; window units take up valuable window space. In many cases, high-wall air conditioner is an optimal choice. Your contractor can advise you.

What should I do in advance to make sure that my air conditioning system will work efficiently this summer?

The main thing is to check the air conditioner each year before the peak cooling season by a qualified contractor or service technician. Then, remember to keep the air filter clean and the outdoor unit free of leaves and debris.

What happens if my new Toshiba air conditioning system does not work after installation?

Simply have a licensed professional diagnose the problem. All parts are covered by a manufacturer's warranty and are available for replacement free of charge with the exchange. Many initial problems are the result of an improper adjustment or wiring and should be initially addressed by the installer.

What is air conditioner parameter EER? What does it mean "EER = 5.1"and what EER value is usual for the air conditioners.

EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) is a ratio calculated by dividing the cooling capacity by the power input in watts at a given set of rating conditions. The higher the EER number, the more energy efficient the unit is.

Toshiba Super Daiseikai air conditioners have an extremely high EER = 5.1. Hence, the split system RAS-B10SKVP-E consumes only 0.49 kW at a cooling capacity of 2.5 kW. EER of most of air conditioners over the range 2.5 - 3.5.

How does an air conditioner work?

An air conditioner transfers heat from the inside of a building, where it is not wanted, to the outside. Refrigerant in the system absorbs the excess heat and is pumped through a closed system of piping to an outside coil. A fan blows outside air over the hot coil, transferring heat from the refrigerant to the outdoor air. Because the heat is removed from the indoor air, the indoor area is cooled.
